What is ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ About?
Fans will of “Power” will get a glimpse into the past of protagonist Kanan Stark. The prequel “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is a way for us to get some more insight into his life as an adolescent in South Jamaica, Queens, and follows themes of identity, violence, and legacy that are deep dives into family psychology.
The story takes place in a tumultuous time for New York City with drugs flooding the streets. At fifteen, Kanan is Raq’s only child and has taken to following his mother around on her drug deals when he should be out playing basketball or passing notes in class. One day at work, they go too far trying to get some extra cash by robbing someone who turns out not just have more money than expected but also close ties to gangs that are eager for revenge against them.
