“Star Trek: Lower Decks” Season 2 premieres Thursday, August 12, on Paramount+. Here’s everything you need to know about the show so far:
What is ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Season 2 About?
“Star Trek: Lower Decks” is a new animated series about the misadventures of ordinary officers on Starfleet’s most mundane and overlooked ship, the U.S.S. Cerritos. The crew consists exclusively of junior ensigns, which means that Star Trek: Lower Decks is not just another rehashed version in an over-stuffed franchise – it has something uniquely different to offer as well!
In the first season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) and D’Vana Tendi (Noel Wells) had memorable adventures that often ended up with them walking into it. From saving the Cerritos several times to his petty pursuit for promotion at work despite being “criminally insubordinate,” from a rather ill-fated romance to their infatuation with their starship – this fast paced irreverence both honors classic TV tropes while taking some more daring risks in order tell new types of stories.
Who Stars in ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Season 2 on Paramount+?
The Star Trek: Lower Decks cast is back in season 2 and, with the exception of Tawny Newsome (Becket Mariner), everyone else will be returning. Jack Quaid has also joined as Brad Boimler but his character’s name remains a mystery for now. Noel Wells returns to her role as D’Vana Tendi while Eugene Cordero plays Sam Rutherford once again alongside Jerry O’Connell who portrays Commander Jack Ransom and Dawnn Lewis reprising Captain Carol Freeman!
