About Survivor TV Show
"Survivor: Winners at War" premieres on February 12th with a special two-hour episode. Twenty former-champions will compete to win a $2 million prize and once again earn the title of 'sole survivor.'
What is "Survivor"?
"Survivor" is a competitive reality show in which players struggle to survive in an isolated location. They must find food, water, and shelter while competing in physical and mental challenges that push them to their limits. Contestants are eliminated weekly by their tribe members if they fail to win immunity. At the end of the show, a jury of eliminated contestants decides who will be crowned the "sole survivor."
What's new for season 40?
The cast is the biggest twist this season. The show will pit former winners against each other to outwit, outplay, and outlast. Showrunners confirmed that they will be continuing a twist introduced two seasons ago during "Survivor: Edge of Extinction." Players who have their torches snuffed head to a deserted island (Edge of Extinction) where they wait for an opportunity to win a challenge and re-enter the game.
"Survivor: Winners at War” will introduce fire tokens which will serve as a form of "Survivor" currency. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Executive Producer Jeff Probst on location in Fiji about the new twist. Probst said each player will start out with tokens that can be traded or used to buy food, items, or advantages. When a player is voted out of their tribe, they must give their fire tokens to a player who will remain in the game. Once on the Edge of Extinction, they can search for advantages. If they find one, they can propose a secret deal to a remaining tribe member: Give me a certain number of fire tokens in exchange for this advantage. If the player pays for the advantage, the castaway on Edge of Extinction receives the fire tokens.
“You don’t know what’s been happening over there. So I’m offering to sell to somebody, hoping that they either have enough money — and, if not, they can borrow it — or go into cahoots with somebody to get enough, because they have only until sundown to pay for it. And otherwise, it’s over. I don’t get anything for the advantage. They don’t get the advantage. I don’t get my tokens,” Probst told EW. The new twist will add another “layer to the society” of “Survivor,” Probst said.
