For even more cancellation/renewal news, see here."Emergence" will not return for a sophomore season, according to Deadline and TVLine. ABC announced the show's cancellation this week when the network released its 2020-2021 renewal schedule. The sci-fi drama lasted only 13 episodes.
Deadline reported that the cancellation of "Emergence" was "likely," based on the show's performance during its freshman season. TVLine painted a similar picture, noting the show averaged 2.7 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers) and a 0.5 demo rating.
The season one finale of "Emergence" left the door open for a second season but has now become the drama's series finale. Jo and Piper banded together to defeat season-long enemy, Helen. However, in the final seconds, it was revealed that an alternate version of Helen still existed within Piper and could be controlled by future villains. It seems like we'll never know what would have happened to Jo and Piper had the show been given a second installment.

A character-driven genre thriller, “Emergence” is about a police chief who takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.
