Single Parents SEASON 3 Cancelled By ABC
About Single Parents TV Show
"Single Parents" will not return for a third season. Deadline and TVLine reported ABC's decision to cancel the show on May 21st. "Single Parents" was notably absent from the network's slate of returning shows for the 2020-2021 season.
The cancellation is a sudden shakeup during an already turbulent time, thanks to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sophomore run of "Single Parents" ended on May 13th with Season 2 Episode 22. TVLine reported that the second season, "averaged a 0.6 demo rating and 2.6 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers), down 32 and 24 percent from its freshman run." Whether or not these numbers factored into ABC's decision to ax the show, we'll never know.
What we do know is that the season two finale is now the series finale, and it left viewers with a lot of unanswered questions. Angie and Derek headed to Barstow for the summer, only for Angie to remember mid-trip that Will had drunkenly confessed his love to her the previous night. It seems we'll never know what would have happened to the principle will-they/won't they couple in this parenting-centric sitcom.
What was "Single Parents" about?
Here's the official premise from ABC: "This ensemble comedy follows a group of single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-old kids and maintain some kind of personal lives outside of parenthood. The series begins when the group meets Will, a 30-something guy who's been so focused on raising his daughter that he's lost sight of who he is as a man. When the other single parents see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses Will has gone, they band together to get him out in the dating world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn't mean sacrificing everything about your own identity."
Who starred in "Single Parents"?
The series starred Will (Taran Killam), Angie (Leighton Meester), Poppy (Kimrie Lewis), Miggy (Jake Choi), Sophie (Marlow Barkley), Graham (Tyler Wladis), Rory (Devin Trey Campbell), Emma (Mia Allen), Amy (Ella Allen) and Douglas (Brad Garrett).
